The Vault – Jaclyn Hill x Morphe: First Impressions, Comparison and Review

Jaclyn Hill x Morphe : The Vault

The Vault : Armed & Gorgeous

August the 14th saw the release of the Morphe: Jaclyn Hill Vault collection and I couldn’t resist picking at least one up. Their original collaboration is one of my most used palettes to date and I’ve been hoping the vault lives up to the expectations. To start I’m just going to give brief explanations of the basics:
How Much?
The Vault as a whole is four palettes each with ten shades and will cost you £49
Individual palettes are £15. The one Pictured is Armed & Gorgeous.
When purchasing you can use a YouTube influencer’s discount code for an extra bit of £££ off. I think the normal saving is around 10%
What You Get
Outer boxing is a white cardboard case which they have kept along the theme of the original collaboration. The box is white and Morphe have added a sparkly design on the front which adds a touch of glamour.
The palette itself is a white stiff card as with the original and sparkle design continues from the outer box to palette. This time the packaging has a shiny finish unlike the previous (matte) making the palette easier to wipe down and keep clean.
Inside they have included a mirror and the ten shades with a net weight of 16g/0.56 oz.
More Details
The Armed & Gorgeous palette is made up of six matte shades and four metallic/ shimmer shades. The reason I chose this palette from the collection is the colours. The yellow and green stuck out for me and I don’t have many palettes with this set up in my collection.
Usage wise I decided to create a golden eye look and took some tips from An Knook’s YouTube video. I have used six of the ten shades and created my opinion based on this.
Starting with the matte shades the palette performed ok. One or two light dabs and your brush is fully covered ready for use.
I going to come out and say it straight off the bat, this particular palette is not as good as the Jaclyn Hill palette.
I’m finding it hard to put into words as to why this is not working for me. The colour pay off is there. The colours compliment each other very nicely and I was able to create a look that I liked and wore all day.
The Problem
The problem is the colours in the pan of the palette I received are very stiff they have little to no fall out and are very dry. Blending wise this creates a lot of extra work. As I stated the colour pay off is there but due to the shadow being so dry it is hard to blend evenly without getting lighter patches on the eye (opposed to one seamless colour) This is easily rectified by building up the colour but is time consuming.

Swatches of the palette. These are un-edited and in natural light. I didn’t want to add swatches originally as they don’t resemble how the product works on the eyes but I thought I’d give you guys an idea

To ensure I wasn’t going mad I got out my Jaclyn Hill palette and compared the textures. You can literally feel the difference. The shadows in the original palette are a lot softer and easier to use.
To Sum Up
Overall I could take or leave this palette. It is usable, you can create some lovely looks and the metallic shades are great. I like the size as its perfect for carrying in your bag for make up on the go. The new mirror inside is big enough to be used when applying your make up and has practicality (some palettes contain small or funny shaped mirrors that hold no purpose).  Design wise it is pretty and I like that they have now included the shade names underneath the pans.
Will I be buying the other palettes in the vault?
No. I love Morphe and have reviewed a lot of their products on my blog, more often then not they have been really worth buying. The vault has missed the mark for me and I was a little underwhelmed after being so excited for the launch of the palettes. In future I will be sticking to my original Jaclyn Hill palette and some of their others that have worked better for me.
Please let me know if you have bought the Vault as a whole or individual palettes. I would love to know if your experience has been different to mine? How do you think they compare to the original or other of your favourite palettes? Comment down below and we can start discussing.
Have a lovely week.

Thank you I’ve been a bit anxious about it as I love Morphe but just didn’t enjoy this palette and I don’t really like being negative about products but I had to be honest. Have a lovely week x x

A really fair and honest review. Palettes can be great but they are pricey so you want your money’s worth.

Your review is very thoughtful, Kate! It’s too bad these didn’t work out. I know I’ve wasted a lot of money on palettes too.

Their Instagram comments are still in shambles over this palette. Both Morphe and Jaclyn’s brands are receiving a lot of heat for putting this out and being shady about the reformulation (after terrible reviews from the beauty gurus). Jaclyn seems to think that just because people aren’t returning the palette that it must be “good enough.” For some, it’s just not worth the effort to spend $7-8 shipping back a $15 palette, lol. Bananas. I think Morphe can bounce back from this but they need to get back to basics and release decent products instead of focusing on hype and brand partnerships. None of that stuff matters if your product is a dud. I applaud you for being straightforward and honest! Great review!

Thank you I was nervous about it, I really don’t like to be negative about products. I have to be honest I was unaware you could return the product if you had opened, swatches and used it. I’m hoping their next release will be really good x x

Ugh, I’m sorry to hear you didn’t love the palette. I purchased the entire collection and I continue to be amazed by the quality and pigment of the entire collection. Maybe that’s because I don’t have the original to compare it to though… I have a recent post on my page using the Armed and Gorgeous palette along with the Ring the Alarm. But there will definitely be more palettes releasing in the upcoming months, hope you find more quality products to fall in love with. Nice post
