Next level full coverage with Dermacol

Recently I have been looking for a new foundation and whilst browsing online I came across a few reviews of the Dermacol Make-Up Cover foundation which complimented how well it had worked and how impressed they had been. Armed with that I popped onto Amazon and bought myself shade 207 for £12.99 and gave myself a little hallelujah for forking out for prime, pleased my new foundation would arrive next day.

I used this as soon as it arrived and have had mixed feelings ever since to the point where I am unsure whether I completely and utterly love it or if I hate it. Here’s why:

The packaging is fine just your typical box with brand name, ingredients list and a small paragraph of what to expect from the product. The foundation is in a toothpaste like tube and gold in colour with Dermacol written down the front. Once you unscrew the lid you have to pop the hygiene cap to release the foundation. Then your ready for usage.

First thing I noted was the shade (I bought 207), for me it looked a little darker then I was expecting. Not to the point that it was unusable but just not as light as I usually go for, being so pale I make Casper look like he’s been sunning it in the Med for a fortnight. But I powered through and gave it a try.

The next problematic thing for me was the formula is THICK.

It does state on the box to use a little and build to the effect you want but “good god” a little could fill all the cracks in Britain’s pavements. A pea sized dollop can really be used to cover your whole face, deleting redness, blemishes, dark circles, it even covered a scar on my forehead.

It was easy to blend considering the thickness you feel when you first apply and it is definitely full coverage. I am a full coverage girl but I have never had a foundation cover everything with such little effort (damp beauty blender).

At this point things started to improve and despite the thick consistency once blended it does not feel as heavy as cement on your skin. You can feel the coverage but it is not too over the top or uncomfortable. It also sits well on the skin, not caking but smooth, covering all pores with no build up.

Setting it with powder did not compromise the result of coverage or cause any build up. The foundation took to other products on top very well and with it being waterproof this does not move from your face all day (I found it differcult to get off and used facial oil to remove).

I did use blotting paper around my nose area during the day and re apply powder but that is just due to having a oily T-Zone and something I regularly have to do throughout the day with all my makeup.

Overall the result of this foundation are fantastic but be prepared for it to be FULL coverage, be prepared for it to be thick in consistency and be careful when choosing your shade. For me the results have been worth it, at £12.99 it is not a bank breaker, it does do what it says on the tin and the results are impressive.

L’Oreal may never been the same again!

So I have recently bought a shed load of L’Oreal products that I have been trying out for the last few weeks and was going to post my reviews and opinions of  this evening, but in the light of their latest behaviours I have decided against this to instead sound off about their mistakes and why they should be ashamed of their handling of this situation.

If you haven’t already seen as recent as August 27th L’Oreal released their you tube video advertisement for their latest True Match foundation campaign which claims to have a matching shade for 98% of its consumers. In this video are influencers ranging from Cheryl Cole to Katie Piper. Amongst them is British Transgender DJ Munroe Bergdorf who during her individual clip champions L’Oreal for showing diversity and stating how hugely important that is for her whilst she does her “bit to break down barriers”.

Shortly after this campaign release the British Daily Mail newspaper (which has very right wing views) has done some digging and released an article based around views that Bergdorf had previously published on Facebook.

With comments such as “Most of y’all don’t even realise or refuse to acknowledge that your existence, privilege and success as a race is built on the backs, blood and deaths of people of colour. Your entire existence is drenched in racism. From micro-aggressions to terrorism, you guys built the blueprint for this shit”. These comments are not for the faint hearted but are true of our history. It would be foolish to think otherwise.

What became even more surprising is that L’Oreal have now released a statement indicating they have terminated contract with Bergdorf stating they “champion diversity. Comments by Munroe are at odds with our values and so we have decided to end our partnership with her”. Personally this was just shocking and has been handled so badly I can’t see the beauty chain recovering.

They could have used this as a platform to show how diverse they actually are as a company (instead of going against their own campaign), they could have empowered the freedom you have in your own thought and feelings and how we can overcome anything with the help of one another no matter their background, race or gender.

Instead they seemed to have tried to brush the issue under the carpet and as Munroe said “your heads that remain buried in the sand with hands over your ears”. It is such a shame that a company so large did not see how they could have really enforced the motto together=stronger to show great changes, proudness and strength but grew fearful of a strong woman’s views to their own demise.

I did not intend for this post to be so heavy but I felt if I continued with my original post I would be classing myself as ignorant which is not something I would ever wish to be.
